In part of their “Nation Day” celebration, Bousquet Holstein attorney Nathan Jerauld visited Holy Cross School in DeWitt to speak to students about the importance of service.
A Veteran of the United States Army, Nate shared with elementary students (K-6) about the personal benefits, challenges, and community impact that comes from military service. The students — patriotically dressed in red, white, and blue — enthusiastically participated in a demonstration of a physical training exercise using Army cadence.
Holy Cross’ Nation Day is part of “Catholic Schools Week,” an annual initiative hosted by catholic schools nationwide. In addition to learning about the daily life a solider, students wrote letters to those stationed overseas. Other service projects throughout the week included stuffing backpacks for local foster children and creating birthday bags for families in need.
Nate served in the United States Army as a military intelligence officer from 2010 to 2016. In 2013, he was wounded in action while serving in Afghanistan. In the aftermath of his injury, Nate was motivated by a desire to help people. He returned to college to earn a masters degree in public administration and a law degree from Syracuse University College of Law.
During his time at law school, he assisted veterans with their military discharges and benefits claims through the Wohl Family Veterans Legal Clinic in Syracuse. He also served as a student researcher with the Institute for Veterans and Military Families, where he helped draft publications and researched veteran-related data.
Nate continues to serve his community through his litigation work at Bousquet Holstein PLLC.
“There’s a huge connection between my time in the military and my work as an attorney now,” Nate said. “Not only the skillset, but also because I get to help others solve the problems that really mean a lot to them.”
