Experience
Laura practices in the firm’s Ithaca office and is an experienced litigator who has exclusively focused her career on the practice of matrimonial and family law. Laura regularly appears in New York State Supreme Courts and Family Courts to zealously advocate for clients in all areas of domestic relations and family law including divorce, equitable distribution, custody, parental access, child support, and enforcement proceedings as well as nuanced Family Court and Surrogate’s Court matters such as abuse and neglect proceedings and contested adoptions.
Outside the courtroom, Laura is a skilled and trusted advisor who explores creative solutions to settle complicated matters while always remaining client-focused. Laura has expertly negotiated and drafted numerous financial and custodial settlement agreements as well as prenuptial and postnuptial agreements with additional extensive experience handling cases for international clients or domestic clients whose cases pose cross-border issues.
Laura has been repeatedly recognized by her peers and rated a Super Lawyers New York Metro “Rising Star” for seven consecutive years. She has guest lectured at St. John’s University Law School on emerging family law issues, has been published in the New York Law Journal and has participated as a faculty member of the New York State Bar Association 2021 CLE on domestic violence, coercive control and trauma-informed interviewing techniques.
Background
Laura is a cum laude graduate of St. Bonaventure University and a graduate of Villanova University School of Law where she served as the Symposium Editor on the Environmental Law Journal, was a student attorney in the Legal Aid Clinic focusing on family law and immigration issues, and was the recipient of the school’s Dorothy Day Award for her pro-bono service.
Prior to joining the firm, Laura practiced in New York City for more than seven years where her practice was focused on complex, high-net-worth matrimonial and family law litigation.
She is a member of the New York State Bar Association where she serves on the Committee on Families and the Law, the New York Women’s Bar Association where she is a member of the Reproductive Rights Committee, and the Tompkins County Bar Association.
