Kayla M. Knupfer

Experience

Kayla is a paralegal in the firm’s Litigation Practice Group, bringing experience in civil litigation, matrimonial and family law, criminal defense, and legal research. She supports attorneys throughout various stages of the litigation process, including drafting legal documents, managing case files, organizing discovery materials, preparing trial exhibits and binders, and facilitating client communications

Before joining Bousquet Holstein, Kayla served as an intern at the Chemung County Public Defender’s Office and the San Mateo County Private Defender Program, assisting with legal research, case preparation, and post-conviction matters.

Kayla brings an interdisciplinary perspective to her legal work, informed by her background in sociology, philosophy, and empirical research. Her undergraduate honors thesis examined ineffective assistance of counsel in capital cases, exploring how legal standards and institutional practices influence attorney decision-making and the administration of justice. Her research earned Cornell University’s Leo Meltzer Award for outstanding undergraduate research in social psychology.

Outside of the office, when she’s not doing the heavy lifting for attorneys, Kayla can be found lifting heavy weights in the gym. A passionate powerbuilder and home chef, she also enjoys spending time with her cat, Bodhi, exploring the outdoors, and trying new things.
