Christy Vouri-Misso

As a former Attorney Advisor to Judge Robert A. Wherry, of the United States Tax Court, Christy Vouri-Misso focuses her practice on all aspects of federal and state tax controversies and planning.  This background gives her the unique ability to view tax issues from all angles with an eye toward resolution.

Christy helps clients through the complex processes of Internal Revenue Service (IRS) examinations (tax audits), administrative appeals, voluntary disclosures, tax penalties, and litigation.  From the most sophisticated corporate tax disputes to the most personal individual tax issues, she takes a hands-on approach to each case and has settled millions of dollars’ worth of tax disputes to avoid expensive litigation.  Christy also has the expertise to challenge the IRS in administrative proceedings and court when the IRS is in the wrong.

Christy’s experience includes helping clients successfully navigate the detailed rules under the New Markets Tax Credit (NMTC) program to achieve favorable financing on development projects all over the country.  Under the NMTC program, a qualified business can attract private capital in generally underserved low-income communities on favorable terms.  Christy has also helped clients understand the requirements and benefits of the new Opportunity Zone program and enjoys helping her clients invest in designated low-income communities.

Christy’s tax planning experience includes drafting tax opinions on sophisticated business transactions, requesting Private Letter Rulings from the IRS, and advising on Nuclear Decommissioning Trusts for the advance planning of decommissioning nuclear power plants.

Christy began her career at an internationally recognized (AmLaw100) law firm in Washington, D.C., primarily focusing on international tax disputes and agreements, including transfer pricing IRS audits, appeals, litigation, Advance Pricing Agreements, and the Mutual Agreement Program.  Christy is also a former professor at Georgetown University Law Center where she taught Tax Practice and Procedure, Litigation.  Christy settled in Syracuse to raise her two young children, Amelia and Jack.
